Sequential Crane Erection and Utilization:

At the commencement of the project, Heathrow Cranes expertly erected a Moritsch RTL 325 tower crane, towering at 54 meters with a 45-meter jib, situated at the rear of the construction site. This initial tower crane installation laid the foundation for subsequent activities. This crane was pivotal in erecting a Jost 158 crane on a specialized cruciform base, ingeniously placed on a logistics slab.

Synchronized Erection Phases:

As the project advanced, Heathrow Cranes strategically orchestrated the tower crane erection phases to coincide with the progress of the reinforced concrete (RC) frame and the completion of the slipform. This synchronization allowed for optimal efficiency. With the completion of the RC frame and the placement of two grillages on each core, the RTL 325 tower crane was skillfully used to dismantle the Jost JTL158 and install two Moritsch RTL 195 tower cranes.

Cost and Time Savings:

The innovative use of the initial RTL 325 tower crane to install subsequent tower cranes proved to be a cost-effective and time-saving approach. By leveraging the existing tower crane infrastructure for installation, the need for road closures that would have been required for mobile crane installations was circumvented. This strategic approach ensured that the client saved both money and valuable project time.

Network Rail Proximity and De-Rating:

One of the challenges faced was the close proximity of the construction site to Network Rail infrastructure. To adhere to safety regulations, all tower cranes were de-rated to ensure a safe distance was maintained, highlighting Heathrow Cranes' commitment to safety and compliance.

Efficient Dismantling:

Upon completion of the project, Heathrow Cranes demonstrated their proficiency in efficiently dismantling the tower cranes. The RTL 325 tower crane was dismantled using the RTL 195 crane. Subsequently, the RTL 195 tower crane was dismantled by the other. The final crane was removed through a road closure in conjunction with a mobile crane.
